"gaze signals“

It is rare for animals to have white sclera in their eyes. Only humans use this part, the "white", of their eyes for visual cues. This is because humans do not face danger when exposing their eyes. In the animal world, however, exposing these signals is life-threatening. Still, there are social situations, such as playing sports or in the workplace, where humans can disadvantage themselves by showing the white of the eyes. Sending signals about one's line of sight and mental state can give others an opening. I wanted to portray this vulnerability and the shared emotions that can be read from the human eye. By removing the ears and nose which express little facial movement, the exaggeratedly small mouth and large eyes show the weak nature that comes from the repressed emotions that are killed in girls as they grow into adulthood.
